I would have liked to know more about Nicholas de Brabant during the Middle Ages. What was he like as a mortal and what drove him to immortality. What was he like on the crusades? Did he enjoy killing as a mortal and that is why he became a vampire? I just can't believe his lust for Janette was the only driving factor... |
Karen
Yes, there should have been more revealed about Nick's past, but given that
there were only 66 episodes or so, they did the best they could. Now, I think the opportunity to reveal more of Nick's past should be made available, wouldn't you agree? |
Susan B.
No, I don't think they should have revealed more of Nick's past. After I watch the flashbacks once, I end up fast-forwarding through them because they always seem boring the second time around. I would have preferred more revelation about Nick's current feelings cures, etc., and less cop stuff which is also boring the second time around. |

Yes! We barly know anything about him! I, for one, would like to know who his parents were. I'd also like to know what he was up to right before he came to Toronto. I think a few scences from his childhood would have been great too. |
Cousin Tiffiney
I don't think they should have revealed more about Nick's past. He would have
lost that cool mysteriousness about him. It would have been cool to see him as
a teenager or something, but only if it was relavent to the plot of the show.
The reason they had flashbacks in the first place, other then to fill time, was
to show how Nick has learned from his past and how it will help him in the
future. All in all learning about Nick's past was a way of saying (in the
author's own weird way) history repeats itself. Terribly sorry for going off on that tangent. I tend to do that. The only time it was ever good to learn about someone's past is if it had relevance to the plot of the episode. And it may or may not answer any questions someone may have or it may bring up more questions. |

No way, I think all the flashbacks where way to much. |
Amanda Berendt
Of course! I am a history buff and I loved seeing him in different periods of time. It was great when in NiQ he talked about a man writing down notes as he played.. with a quill. It would also possibly give more insight into the character of Nick. |

Interesting question... It would have been nice if they had revealed more of Nick's past during the series. I was always intrigued by the flashback sequences because who we are, what we are and how we think are determined by what happened to us in the past. The past shapes our view of the world, and it would have been interesting to find out about the other things that Nick had done in the past and how the past has influenced his thoughts, feelings and attitudes toward mortals. Perhaps something that happened in the past might have changed Nick's attitude about certain things and people during his life and because of that, Nick's perspective on things might be different. It's something to think about... Thanks for the good question! |

No, I believe that they revealed enough about Nick's past during the series. What I would enjoy seeing is more of LaCroix's past, prior to Janette and Nick. We see only a 20 year span of time in the beginning but after the "death" of Divia we see nothing again until Janette is brought across. LaCroix must have been doing something during that time, I can't imagine he was just sitting around twiddling his thumbs for a thousand years until he brought Janette across. |

I'm new to Forever Knight having seen only the pilot film when it first appeared. Now I've become a real fan of the series. I especially enjoy the "flashbacks" precisely because they do reveal so much about the past of this tormented creature of the night. Let's see more of them. (I'm assuming that there will be enough interest generated to revive the series. I certainly hope that is the case.) |

I would like to know more about how Nick was when he was mortal, especially during the Crusades. Why did he choose to become immortal, epecially if he didn't like killing when he was mortal? Stuff like that would be interesting. I think the flashbacks are great, but I think I'd like to know more about Nick's more recent past. |
Bari
Yes! They should have! I don't know about a lot of people, but when I'm as engrossed with a show like I am with FK, I want to know everything! Down to the brand of toothpaste the character uses! |
Julian Luna
Yes... we can better understand Nick... we hardly know nothing of him even less Lacroix... what makes the show even more interesting in my opinion are flashbacks... I would have liked to see a lot more. |
Russ Lance
I think they should have had entire shows JUST dealing with his (and the others') past. |
Sharon Bauman
Yes, I think the writers should have included more material about Nick's past as a mortal and
as a vampire. For that matter, I would have liked to have seen more of all the vampire
characters' past. The events in one's life shapes who he/she is; to leave that out in a story
leaves a big gaping hole in the character. And the viewers are left to wonder "why did he/she
act that way? why did he feel that way?" sorts of questions. I wouldn't be interested in seeing
Nick, Lacroix, Janette, Vachon, or Urs as children or teenagers, but as adult mortals. It would
provide insight into why they became vampires and what drives them now. For example, we know from seeing Lacroix as a Roman general that he was capable of being cold-blooded, but can only wonder what happened in his life [and perhaps his years as a vampire] to make him so cynical. And what influenced Nick that he remained optimistic about humankind throughout such terrible suffering [wars, disease, greed]? I think the cop plot line is incidental to the core of the program. People are intrigued by the idea of someone being able to live so long, to experience history firsthand. They want to know what it was like to live "back then" and what happened with the characters. It's like getting to know a person, only it takes a little longer, because that person has more life experience. |
Watcher
Not for the sake of it. If they come with a really good story - positively yes; otherwise, it would be wasted opportunity to get more insight of Nick's personality. |
Sharon Lee Frye
Although I would like to see more of Nick's past revealed (Janette's and LaCroix's, too), I think just the right amount of the past was revealed per episode. The flashbacks and present day stories complement each other nicely, and still leave enough open spaces for other things to be going on. |
Kathryn Dexter
After reading some of the other's comments, I have to say that I would have loved to know more
about 13th century Nicholas de Barbant or any of his other alter egos. He still remains a
mystery to me because I don't have cable and missed many of the second and third season
episodes. Any insight that another fan has, be he/she a Die Hard, Knightie (Dark or Light),
Cousin, or any other faction I may have left out, your input is welcome. E-mail me at
[email protected] Love always, your sister of the Knight! |
Sarah Larson
I think they gave us a very good background of Nick's past. I think the writers even involved some humor in it. How likely would it be to be a historical figure and to have known Beetoven, Leonardo and been on the Titanic when it went down. Oh, not to mention riding on a train with Hitler. I'm suprised he doesn't riddle with guilt over not disposing of that monster. I think realistically though his demeanor would of been different for the present time. I can't say I have much more complaint than that. I'm sure glad he got rid of the long hair. It didn't compliment his beautiful face. |
Reva
No. I think there was an even balance of his past and present life. I think the series explored his evolution from curious vampire to someone who feels guilty. Finally they showed his desire to become human again. I think the flashbacks fit with the present storyline so I think they combined to show enough of Nick's life to give us a good understanding of the character. |
Sami Swan Thompson
Yes -- and some flashbacks that DIDN'T involve guilt/angst would have been great. Little bits of dry humor add so much flavor, don't you think? If a Forever Knight movie does develop, I'd suggest more humor and playful wickedness. |
Angela Rynan
Are you kidding?!? With all the flashbacks that would ensue, Nick's attention span would wander
so far he'd go into a static coma...! Besides, it's much more satisfying to leave a little mystery. Women don't have the monopoly on THAT, you know...<g> |
Marie
Considering that we got 3 seasons of flashback and car swerves from Nick, I don't think we could have really seen much more. I know that there is more, *much* more, but I'd rather had seen more flashbacks for Screed, Urs, Vachon, and Nat about her grandmother. Maybe even some for LaCroix. That's my $.02 worth. |
Sarie
More flashbacks of all of the immortals's pasts would have been interesting. I love it when fiction and fact, particularly historical facts, are mixed together. It is a way for the audience to learn about things that were very dry and boring in high school history classes. |
Peggy A.
I think the best part of the show are the flashbacks, short and exiting, longer would bore me and shorter wouldn't make any sence. A little more about Nicholas before he became a vimpire would be great. |
Natasha
I think they definately should have. There were so many unanswered questions. I would have loved to know more about his life before he was brought across, when he was a child, and after he became a vampire (especially his travels with LaCroix and Janette). |
Katherine
Yes, definitely. There are a lot of blanks, in my opinion, about why Nick changed his thinking so drastically over the years. Yes, we know some, such as the incident with the ballerina, but I think there is more to the story. Also, I would have liked to see some times when he was genuinely happy. Lastly, there are some pretty rocking ages that we haven't explored yet. (And just where were you, Nicholas, in the summer of '69? :) |
Karen Gregory
No! As long as the history stays consistant, not contradicting itself, I like the way was being presented. A little bit of his past coming out each episode. I look foreward to the new revelations. |
Danielle Goldstein
No, That would make fanfiction even more difficult. We need the holes! Also, during the 4th season they will probably fill in some of them. Anyway, it makes him more mysterious. It's better that way. |
Michelle Bischof
Oh yes, definitely. It was fascinating hearing about all the history Nick was involved in. I love the way they indicate that Nick and the others had a lot to with certain historic events, like Nick's dog inspiring Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles, and the hint that Nick was actually the one who composed Für Elise (Night in Question). And I really loved how Lacroix came this close to making ADOLF HITLER an immortal vampire. |
