Question:
What do you think are Lacroix's views
about Natalie as an individual?

-------

Reva

I think Lacroix respects Natalie as an individual. After all, she has proven her ability to keep the Community a secret. She also found the antidote to the fever so I think Lacroix feels she does have some worth. However, he does resent her closeness to Nick, hence his animosity towards her. He also dislikes the fact that she is working against him in that she is trying to help Nick find mortality. In a way, Nat and Lacroix are the angel and the devil sitting on Nick's shoulders whispering in his ear. No wonder he has so much angst!

Catherine

He does not trust her and feels sort of threated by her relationship to Nick. He used to have that closeness to Nick that she now has and that makes him jealous.

Missie

I think Lacroix trusts her. I think he knows that she would do anything to help Nick.

Monique

My take on LaCroix's view of Natalie as a person is this:

I think that no matter how much he would say he dislikes her, he would probably have a great deal of respect for her. She is strong and he admires strength, albeit grudgingly, and she has a beauty that he would desire. Even though he hasn't felt love in a very long time, he wouldn't be immune to desire. I also think that his respect for her strength would be assured because of the way she has never (that I can remember) backed down from a fight or disagreement with one of his kind.

Well, that's just my opinion!

Sharon Bauman

I think that he does not trust Natalie, as he mistrusts all mortals. He also resents, or is envious of, her relationship with Nick, whom he sees as his protege. Lacroix wants Nick to remain a vampire [with him] and Natalie wants Nick to become mortal [and stay with her], so naturally there's a conflict of interest here.

However, Lacroix probably respects Natalie, also. After all, vampires must depend on humans for some things, and Natalie can and does keep her knowledge of their [Lacroix, Nick, Janette] existence a secret. And she doesn't revile Lacroix and other vampires. She helps, however reluctantly sometimes, and still tries to get Nick out from under Lacroix's thumb. So, there's a mixture of loathing, envy, and respect mixed in as far as Lacroix's feelings toward Natalie.

Julian Luna

I think that LaCroix believes that Natalie is a strong, honest person, but she is in a way trying to steal Nick from what he is, which I do not think that Lacroix appreciates that but in another words, I think that he believes that she could actually be good for Nick.

K-A

He see's her as a threat. She can take away his Nick.

Robyn Hankins

I think as an individual he has a great deal of respect for her. He knows she can be trusted to keep the Community a secret, but I do believe he resents her relationship with Nick. She has growing influence in Nick's life, and has usurped his position as a "confidante" (to an extent). Despite this he admires her, she quite obviously knows whats she's doing, and if it were not for her attempts to help Nick become mortal, I believe a relationship would blossom between the two of them (maybe even despite her involvement in Nick's "little quest").

Denese

Apart from the obvious dislike of her trying to 'cure' his son, IMO LaCroix admires her for her work ethic and her willingness/ability to help his 'community' even though there is a constant risk to her from the 'community' she helps.

Michelle

A really though provoking question! I think that, based on their confrontation in NiQ and in Fever (there's not much to say about his opinion in LK, sigh), he views her as an *almost* formidable opponent. She faces him off in NiQ and tells him to leave, and he does. That takes real guts, and even though her fear was evident, she did is sucessfully. Wow! To be working on the cure so long and not be approached by LC again, apart from BMV (in NiQ he was already there, and in Fever had the body)... that takes a strong person.

Jackie Wilson

I believe if anyone understands Natalie it is LaCroix. They are both after one thing... Nick. Both have used the same sort of cohersion to get (or try and keep) Nick. LaCroix sees Natalie as his enemy, someone who will stop at nothing to turn Nick away from him. He knows he can't kill her, because to do so would drive the wedge between he and Nick deeper. They are the opposite sides of the same coin.

Navidia

I think that he hates her relationship with Nick- the one that he has never been able to have. He has never been as close to Nick, and his relationship with Nick is more of an abusive father-rebel son type that doesn't show the emotions the Nick and Nat have.

I think in a way he respescts her, and secretly admires her mortality- but would never admit it, to himself or anyone else. I think that he also is jealous of Nick in the fact that Nick has a mortal's love- which was something that he almost had... I think that he resents them both for having what he can't.

Susan Bennett

Good question! I actually believe he has a respect for Natalie that he does not normally bestow upon us lowly mortals <g>. (Possibly due to the fact he either kills us or makes us vampires before he has a chance to know us <g>) Even though Nat is Lacroix's adversary for Nick's soul, I think he respects her courage, determination, and love for Nick; and wants to make it a fair fight.

Sebrooks

She is a mortal whom he is just waiting to take down and almost did for Valentine's Day. She keeps Nick interested in being a mortal except when she wants Nick to make her a vampire. LaCroix has shown little interest in her as anything other than Nick's love interest and as a doctor.

Jennifer

I believe he sees her as an annoying goody two-shoes who continues to try to subvert his son Nick... Lacroix seem practical and doesn't see anything wrong with the way he lives <or unlives>, why should Nick have a problem with it.

Teresa Floyd

As much as he would like to despise Natalie as a symbol of Nick's obsession with becoming mortal, he has to respect her courage and persistence. He must also fear what she can do to him by helping Nick to reject and walk away from everything LaCroix has done for him. LaCroix is the model of the overprotective parent who would like to have a veto over his child's choice of mate so that parental control is not jeopardized.

Irene Alder

I believe that Lacroix is happy to know Nat, because she is a puzzle. Most of the time, people in general usually don't have the guts (or maybe stupidity, who knows for sure) to openly stand up to and against Lacroix. He finds her intriguing and interesting at the way she so doggedly tries to accomplish something so utterly impossible, and yet he gets a little annoyed with her perserverance.

Karen

I think Lacroix actually has a lot of respect for Natalie. In a way, he resents her looking for a cure for his son, but she is just one of many who have tried over the years. But I think he sees a resolve and dedication to Nick that others have been lacking. He brought Calvin (Fever) to the morgue not only to gloat, but he knew that Natalie would understand the situation and gain the cure for his children. (Please note, I don't mean that Natalie would be understanding over the death of her friend, I mean she would understand the implication of Lacroix being cured and take it from there.)

I also think that he didn't really buy the story Nick tried to sell him in Be My Valentine, but as he realized that Nick was seemingly willing to destroy her, he understood the complexity of Nick's and Natalie's relationship. He recognizes her value to his community and is content to not alert the enforcers about her. Yes, I think he thinks very highly of her.

Bob Spettigue

I think he sees her as an annoyance. They're both after the same thing, Nick's affection, but LaCroix knows that Nat can't win while Nick's still a vampire. Since he doesn't believe that Nick can regain his mortality, he doesn't consider Nat a serious threat. He'd probably just take her out if it weren't for the fact that doing so would really piss Nick off.
