My choice would have to be Nat. I would have made her a little more pushy. She gave in too easily on everything except the cure, it was the only thing she was demanding about. If she would have demands on more than just that, (the cure) I think that part of the show would have been better. |

I think I'd like to improve the personality of Vachon. We knew he liked Tracy,
& vice versa, but he'd never commit to anything. I'd have made him a little
more demonstrative. Not enough to scare anyone off, but just enough so Tracy
would have to make a decision one way or the other eventually. I think they
may've been doing something like that, but were going *WAY* too slow! I think I would've also made Nick a little different. He was *angsting* way too much. I think he should've had a little more fun w/ his abilities when he felt *forced* to use them, instead of so much guilt. He did alot of good sometimes w/ them, & why not enjoy that aspect of it. I also wouldn't have made Natalie as much of a *nag* in that regard. I'd want her to come to terms w/ what Nick is *while* she's trying to help him become *human* again. |

This is a good question. There is only one character that really bothers me,
Tracy. They make Tracy this Daddy's girl who can't make decisions without him. She always seems to be trying to prove herself. It takes a strong and decisive woman to become a cop. I think they could have made her stronger, smarter and a little less perky. Do we really believe she could have a personal relationship with a vampire and not even suspect her partner? Not if she is a good detective! |

Even though I'm a Dark Knightie, I would have to say, "Lighten up a bit there, Nicky-boy!!!!!!" Nick should have given himseld more credit for the good that he has done, the lives that he has saved, rather than the eternal "I'm a b-a-a-a-a-a-d boy" angsting/guilt-tripping. When he's not so guilt ridden, he's sexier (hard to imagine, I know, but I do remember the second season with ever so much fondness, when he did have a lighter spirit - and he was s-o-o-o gorgeous). Of course, for him to lighten up on his angsting, Nat would have to ease up on her constant harping/nagging. |

First I would have left LaCroix more evil instead of watering him down. I also would have made Tracy more believeable as a cop - tougher, stronger, *able to follow orders*. I would have liked an evil LC and a *Nick with a backbone* fighting it out at the end. I found the lovey-dovey father/son stuff too hokey after all the torment Nick has suffered at LC's hands. Finally - I would have given Vachon the ability to blink <g>. |

I would improve on Natalie's character. She's just a bit too whiny for my tastes. |

Nick: Give him a backbone. Stand up to Nat a little! If she treated him
like a child, he shoulda told her where to go. Better yet, shoulda left her
when he had the chance. Sheesh... he was going to leave in "BB"; but he was too
chicken to do that too! LaCroix: Getting a little too nice in Season 3. Should've left him a little more old-Lacroix-ish. No need to be AS sadistic as before, but not as wussy either. But, if they needed to make him evolve the way he did, I think what we saw was perfect. Tracy: No... too easy... Vachon: Yo! Ever heard of a barber??! You know, they're places where they actually make your hair look like it wasn't a nesting spot for crows! And show a little more emotion. Don't think his character was shown as much as they could have. Screed: Actually, woulda liked to have seen more of this guy. Janette: Perfect Schanke: Perfect Cohen, Stonetree, Reese: Good, but woulda like to have seen a little more action from these people, especially Cohen. Nat: I'd like a price check on a carton of Ultra-Super-duper-Extra-Strength PMS tablets please... |

I would choose to change Tracey. I think she would have been a great change in
partners for Nick if she wasn't such an air-head. You could tell right from the
begining when she is standing in front of the coffee shop in Black Budha 2
talking with the bad guy. She says (I'm paraphrasing here), Night shift takes
it out of me, I always stop here for a hit of coffee to get me home. He says
something along the lines that he has trouble working the night shift and then
she says: "Graveyard, me too!" Even my 12 year old roared at that one. In fact
its a family joke. Anyway, in BB2, they did try to show she had some brains in that blond head of hers when they were discussing the bombings. She actually was the one to figure out the bomber was mad his pattern was altered and blew up the plane. I gave her the benefit of the doubt at that point, but it was downhill from there. They also hinted at a possible friendship between her and Natalie starting, but it too fizzled. I would have made her almost equal in police abilities to Nick, so he wouldn't have to babysit, yet the two were hardly working together half the time. If she had a more active part in their partnership, Nick might have seriously entertained the thought of letting her know about him. I really could have gotten to like Tracey, but they, the writers, never would let that develop. The others, Nick, Nat, Lacroix and Vachon all were pretty stable as characters go. I truly enjoyed watching all of them and especially looked forward every week to the rapport between Nick and Lacroix. P.S. Capt Reese whined entirely too much about the different human fralities that related to the case they worked on each week. Given the fact he made it to captain, certainly he had seen some of the more gruesome sides of life in general and would by this time have learned to deal with it. This is not to say that some of what he said was pertinent to the plot, but more or less I thought all he did was lament about life and whined most of each show. I did like his acting in Jane Doe though. It was a turn around from the other episodes! |

Nick needs some sensitivity. So he can treat Natalie better. |
Kristin Weddum
Nick: He should have been more "insightful" ... after 800 years of life
experience you wouldn't think too much could get past him. He should have been
more humorous and sauve. He wanted to become human again ... why? (Not that I
think this desire is wrong) but I never really heard him glorify the human
state ... that would have been interesting, especially with Uncle's opposing
beliefs. Nat: She needed a life outside of the morgue, a life that included friends and romantic involvements (now I'm a N&N fan ... but I'd also have liked to see HIM work a little on their relationship instead of taking for granted that she'd always be there ....) I'd have also like to have seen more interaction between Uncle and Nat. Tracy: Either a cop or a ditz, pick one and stick to it. As is, she wasn't much of a character at all. |

I think I would have given Tracy a more definitive personality. Was she brought
on as a potential relationship for Vachon? Was she meant to portray the role of
women on the police force? Was she meant as a rival of Natalie for Nick's
affection? Or was she meant to drive Nick crazy and make him miss Schanke even
more? I would have made Urs less of a victim. She is a vampire, after all. Vachon started out interesting but he eventually just did everything Nick told him to. I think I would have made Urs a seductive vampire who tempted Nick and Vachon could have pursued Tracy, causing Nick to worry. First season Nat and third season Nat seem like two totally different people. I think the writers perhaps intended to show the futility of loving a vampire. I would have made Lacroix a lot meaner. I liked his cruel streak in the first season. Nick is the most difficult to discuss. I did like his personality in the third season because that is why I became hooked on the show. I think he progressed from the first season as somewhat happy and had a sense of humour to the third season melancholy of a vampire resigned to his fate. Despite all of the above, I think the show was great. |

Nat could have had more depth and compassion in her character. Though I am a dyed in the wool Nick&Nat Packer, even I must admit that at least during the third season, Nat was a bit too preachy. |
Courtney Clemmons
I would have made Nick a little less whiny about being a vampire and Nat would definitly need an attitude adjustment. She should not give in as easy as she does. |

After reading everone's posts I had to write this. Natalie had every right in the world to nag at, and give Nick all the attitude she gave him, he acted like he loved her but never gave her any respect, he acted like he used her. Natalie should of told him where to go ALOT more. he needed to grow up. I think is so typical of people to blame the women. Just think how you'd handle it if a man treated you this way. All I have to say is GO NATALIE!!! BITCH AWAY.!!! |
Luc
I would make improvements on Vachon, he should be a little more loving to Tracy. |
Sharon Bauman
Nick: I would have had him come to terms with his vampire self and act
more "normal". He could have concentrated on developing a better relationship
with Natalie and been more of a mentor for his partner [Tracy]. I would have
had him explore his love/hate relationship with LaCroix more. It got
interesting in the third season. I also liked the humorous stories or scenes -
Geraint is good at humor. I don't remember the name of the episode, but it was
in the second season when Natalie came up with what turned out to be a
temporary cure for Nick and Nick is exploring all the things he couldn't do as
a vampire - like eat food, drive in the daylight with the convertible top down,
etc. That was great. LaCroix: I did like his mean streak most of the time, but for a guy who thinks of Nick as his "son", he sure played some mean tricks on Nick. I would have pursued the relationship they were developing in the third season, with LaCroix showing more feelings toward lots of things [Ashes to Ashes; Last Knight; Sons of Belial - three good examples]. I always enjoyed his monologues, so I would have let him keep his radio show. But I would have redone the Raven Club. I know vampires keep up with the times, but were they all into heavy metal and punk? I would have LaCroix interact more with Natalie - ally and foe [both of them]. Vachon: I would have given him more of a story line once he was introduced. After all, what's a vampire story without vampires? He made a good addition, but after a while he became window dressing for the show's storylines. We were tantalized with snippits of info about him, which could have been more fully developed [as in a FOURTH SEASON]. Natalie: I agree that Natalie got very grumpy in the last season. I would have had her accept Nick for what he was and gotten away from that not-so-subtle theme "women always think they can change the man they love". It didn't play well. I would have had her interact with the other characters more, since she knew all the vampires and they knew she knew. I might have introduced a romantic interest for her, to stir Nick's emotions. And I would have gotten her out of the morgue more often. Did we ever see where she lived? Her character was better written in the first two seasons. Tracy: I would have slapped her in the face and told her to straighten up and stop acting like an irresponsible juvenile! Seriously, she had potential as a strong female role, but the writers wimped out! I never thought she was "perky" - more annoying. And she never acted like the top-notch, professional cop she was introduced as. So I would have improved her personality by making her professional, a little more observant about her partner, and not making her a victim. I wouldn't have killed off Capt. Cohen. I thought she was a good character who interacted with those under her command. And she didn't take any nonsense from Nick and Schanke. She was a strong character with a heart. Urs: I would have made her a stronger character [I don't like women as victims themes]. I think the only time she showed real guts was in Ashes to Ashes when she was being attacked and really fought back! Janette was perfect except for the fact that she enjoyed seeing LaCroix torment Nick some times. But she was a strong character: interesting, a mix of mystery, sex appeal, could take care of herself, etc. I never would have made her mortal [and in such a hokey way]. Lastly, I wouldn't have killed off any of the characters; Schanke would retire to Arizona; Screed would go back to sea; Capt. Cohen would still be captain; Vachon and Urs would still be around. And Divia would still be entombed in that pyramid. Honestly, who could believe she could survive all those centuries on nothing to drink, AND be stronger than any other vampire who'd been honing their skills for 800+ years? And if Divia did manage to get out, she would make mischief for LaCroix [the thorn in the side character], but not deadly. |

NICK: Two words for you, LIGHTEN UP!!! He tried to be too perfect and
beat himself up for every wrong doing. Besides the beating up part is Uncle's
job. So I'd make Nick accept his mistakes and go on in his un-life. NATALIE: She's a great character, when PMS doesn't affecct her moods. Which it did *way* too much this season. All she did was b**** at Nick about everything and anything. I mean, come on, give the guy a break! So, I'd make her not so moody and not so b****y. LACROIX: Still tormented Nick and had fun with it, too. He went soft at the end, which was weird, but neat to see. So, I wouldn't have changed anything with LaCroix. TRACY: This one will be fun! First: Too perky, Second: Air-head and dim-witted, Third: Vachon was a vampire, so why couldn't she figure out Nick was one, too (See 'Second')?! She wanted to be so strong and independent to show everyone she was her own person and "a good cop" (Any one else get sick of hearing that line?). So I'd make her smarter and work my way down from there. VACHON: Needed more of him!!! He was shown every so often and he was in the credits as a main character, but we never really saw or knew much of him. So, I'd put much more of him in eps. JANETTE: *Human*!!! Is that the *only* way they could think of bringing her back?! I'd have kept her as sometimes character, or something. SCHANKE: I miss him, but I really didn't know of him very well. URS: More of her. SCREED: He was a great addition and I miss his weirdness and humor. Oh, before I forget, NONE OF THEM WOULD HAVE DIED!!! I like coments from people and I love getting e-mail, so: [email protected]. I will kindly ignore any flaming stakes, but I will enjoy all coments. |

Tracy's character would have been so much more interesting if she wasn't such a goodie-two-shoes all of the time! That gets boring real quick and you can only go so far with it. They should have had some major traumatic event occur that would have forced her to deal with the "dark" side of life. In this way, she might have been able to relate to Vachon a little better. I think this would have helped make her relationship with Vachon a little more believeable and would have opened up a whole new avenue of possible story lines for their relationship. |
