Although they were the most difficult to watch, I think both episodes were
pretty good. Looking at them coldy, we found out more about Lacroix and his
background, how much Nick did care about Lacroix, Lacroix could override a
resistor, that Tracey really did care for Vachon... I wonder what she was going
to ask him in the car outside the station... Natalies and Nicks feelings for
each other were confirmed, Nick needed better tutoring in bringing those he
loved across and he was willing to deal with the thought of an afterlife.
They were both very well acted, but Vachon's wig left a lot to be desired. I wish both would have ended differently, and I am still upset about everyone being killed off, but I listed them in the survey as two I would consider buying. Like everyone else, I really will miss new episodes this season. |

I've expressed my disappointment in the last 2 or 3 episodes of FK in
previously answered questions. Basically, I did not think killing off Vachon
and Urs was realistic [nor desirable for the fans of FK]; and the last episode,
while it left the door open to the possibility that Nick and Nat are NOT dead,
was less than satisfying. The writers rehashed scenes to fill time and after
all this time, you would think Nick knew how to bring someone over without
botching the job! Although I thought the character of Tracy Vetter could have
been written better [we were told what a good, professional cop she was, yet
the story lines portrayed her as either ditzy, careless, using poor judgment,
or otherwise not being a team player], I don't think she deserved to be killed
off. I liked the idea of the two human/vampire friendships -- Nick and Nat and
Vachon and Tracy. The writers could have done a lot with those two
relationships, even if they remained friends instead of lovers. And flashbacks
are always interesting. Vachon started out as a Spaniard, but somehow landed up
an Englishman speaking french ... or something confusing like that. I would
have liked to see Vachon's flashbacks "fleshed out" more.
I'm hopeful we fans can get Forever Knight back. If 7,000 fans can get the president of Fox Broadcasting to resurrect "America's Most Wanted", it can happen to FK. [Of course, 30 Governors and most major-city police captains would have to write in to give our cause more weight, like they did with America's Most Wanted. But who knows? Strange things happen .... |

Ashes to Ashes: The best hour of television I've seen in a long time! (possibly
ever) Nuff said' Last Knight: Beautifully acted. Wonderfully Directed and filmed. Horrible outcome! |

I'm sure I will be with the majority when I say I hated the content. Especially "Ashes to Ashes" since Vachon is my personal fave. However, if I have to give points for production, direction, writing and staying true to the spirit of the show, yeah, they were good episodes. And I have to admit I loved seeing LaCroix in jail and being tossed around a bit. It was time someone made him afraid. But was the killing of everyone except LaCroix the studio's revenge because we won't let go? Were they hoping we'd drop it if they did? Didn't work. I think they have noticed. I would like to take the same values they put into the last two shows and see they come up with something that recants. |

I think Ashes to Ashes was brilliant. I was a bit surprised by the emotions
shown by Lacroix but it worked. I don't even mind that they killed off some
characters that I was getting used to seeing around. Last Knight was bad and good, It was the show you love to hate or is it hate to love. I didn't want to see it end but since it did I think that it was done exactly the way the end should be done. I felt like I was watching friends die inside a sealed glass box though and I felt so helpless and lost. I have never been so emotional over a TV show. I shook for two days after watching it. |
Mary Lou Manzie
They sucked. I'm trying to forget them altogether. In fact, when they are repeated, I don't watch them, even though I watch almost all of the other ones (I think I'm on my 10th time for some!). |
Lee Hickling
Ashes to Ashes and Last Knight? I hated them. Didn't everyone? |
Frédéric Ferland
Hey, who said I can't answer my own questions?!? :) Ashes to Ashes and Last Knight are among my favorite episodes. Sure, I hated to see the characters die one after another, but both episodes were full of emotions, and that's what I liked about them. I really liked the part where Tracy said to Nick: "You could have trusted me..." I almost cried. In fact, I think I did! Those two episodes also revealed a great deal about LaCroix. In both episodes, he showed emotions that he had never showed before. We also learned that even he could be afraid of something! So no, Lee, not everyone hated those episodes... :) |
David A King
I really enjoyed having just about every segment open on a Lacroix monologue. When he gets a rolling with great writing, and the feeling he puts in those words, well, it's no wonder that he won the Gemini! |
Jayma K. Riley
Ashes to Ashes was one of the best shows they ever did. The acting was superb.
They didn't have to kill off Vachon, however. I was never sure just how to take
him, but when he died it caused me to realize I would miss him. Last Knight really hurt me. I didn't know it was coming. I hated Nat after that it seemed like her bitchiness and selfishness caused 95% of all the problems. If she hadn't been pushing Nick so hard he would not have been in such a miserable state. I believe that in the context of the show Nat is even responsible for Tracy's death. She had Nick so upset he wasn't fully aware of what was going on around him. These are just my opinions, be that as it may. |
Larissa Field
Despite how the episodes ended, I personally think AtA and LK are the best episodes of the entire series. They were both wonderfully acted and directed and gave us some amazing insight into the characters. Call me crazy but I think the whole Romeo and Julliet parallel in Last Knight was a nice touch. What I like most about the episodes is that no one can say what happeded for sure. Ambiguity can be a wonderful thing. I know many people see LK as an ending but it doesn't have to be- as long as you have faith that it isn't an ending. Hey, this is TV we're talking about- anything's possible. I just refuse to judge an episode on the fact of whether or not it ended the way *I* would have wanted it to end. AtA and LK were what we were given and I love them both (even if I did cry through the entire second half of LK the first time I watched it). |
Amanda Sridasome
They never happened! I'm in denial right now. It had great direction, and great acting, but *it never happened!*. |
Methos
OK... I'm not so sure which episode was the second last, but it may have to do
with LaCroix's daughter. I felt that it was time for the show to shed some
light on the relationship betwenn LaCroix and his daughter. Last time I saw her
was in another pretty good episode about the meteor collision scheme. In this
episode, we see the "human" side of LaCroix that has completely suppressed. As for the second episode, that was a major disappoitment. Most of the content of the episode was comprised of recaps from past episodes. Although the episode left several doors open for the possibility of the resurrection of the show, the finale lacks the plot substance that the previous episodes have. Funny, being a finale, I thought the show would go out with a memorable good-bye. Oh well, so much for originality in television nowadays. |

I didn't like them much... Needed more...... uh......... more uh.......... hmmmm......... more.................................................................................................. more sex. |
Kathleen Devanney
I was appalled by the death and violence of the 2nd to last show. I was heart-broken after the last show--I felt like a very close friend died. I mourned for weeks. I even went to Toronto--a city I planned to visit someday, but only went now because of the end of this series. I love Toronto and will probably go back again. I loved this series. I considered it to be about the ethics of being vampire. The end was faithful to the concept of the show and kept faith with the viewers who have been dedicated to it. I sort of wish Nick had brought Natalie over. But if he did, it would be a violation of the hatred and contempt he had for the vampire existence--living in darkness forever. |
E. Albertson
I didn't see them. They never happened. (DeNial is beautiful this time of year...) :-) I really didn't see them, and I can pretend they really didn't happen. |
Andresia
Honestly, I think they were killing everyone off in the final episodes. So in short conclusion I think they were miserable because they shattered my hopes for new episodes. |
Jenny
I didn't care for either episode. That's mostly due to content. I don't
remember alot about AtA, except Divia was going wacko on everybody LaCroix
knew/cared about (I *think* that's what was happening on that ep, wasn't it?)
Was mad when Vachon & Urs were "done away with". Something should've been
able to be done w/ that little twit before all the damage was done.
LK was just a "knightmare" (I'd hoped literally @ the time when I saw it before I realized it really was ending!) Altho., I did like LaCroix' sililoquies thru the whole thing. Otherwise, who could pay attention to any of the acting/filming qualities when everyone was dropping dead like flies?!! I was in total shock almost from beginning to end! Still say those producers should be *shot*!! Oh, I gotta quit..... I get upset every time talking about this stuff!!!!! |
Lisa W.
As LaCroix once said: "This...never...happened." 'Nuff said. |
Miiko
I think the last 2 eps "Ashes to Ashes" and "Last Knight" were beautifully done. I like both eps. In "Ashes to Ashes," I could see a little bit of LaCroix's Human side (humanity). I was surprised when he said "I may even say a prayer" at the end of eps. About "Last Knight" that is a quite sad story... But I still believe both Nick and Natalie are alive! How can LaCroix stake and kill Nick? He is LaCroix's favorite, remember? Natalie is still alive as a mortal! That's what I believe! These 2 eps are my favorite eps from the 3rd season. |
Heather
In retrospect, I realized that Ashes to Ashes was the set-up for Last Knight.
Of course, I didn't clue in and kept thinking right up until the closing
credits of LK, "Not possible! They can't!". I actually had to watch LK a second
time to convince myself it ended as it did.
Even if the show is resurrected, so many of the characters have been killed off (or nearly killed off)... From a crft perspective though, both episodes were beautifully directed, acted and shot. Low budget doesn't mean cheap if the talent is there. |
Diane Shea
Ashes to Ashes: For me it was simply one of the best. I think that has
something to do with being a Cousin. :) Last Knight: There were good things about it. It made me really feel for Nick for perhaps the first time ever (that Cousin thing again) and I felt it was a very powerful ending whether you believe they died or not. |
Nicole Nelson-Hicks
Ashes to Ashes..... Loved it!!! Loved Divia to death!!! Loved seeing Uncle get
a whooping and shedding some of his facade to see the stuff underneath. I'm a
Light Uncle somewhere deep within. As for Last Knight.... I always enjoy shows that feature a good amount of Uncle...... but... am I the only one who thinks that most of the characters acted out of character? Especially Natalie? I'm not a big Nat fan (personally, I think she needs to get out of the morgue and get a life!) but I just didn't understand how she suddenly becomes so unhinged because of the death of someone she says wasn't particularly all the close to her. And, well... the ending... wasn't that a kicker? At least Uncle lived.... but, doesn't he always? And I agree.......Coulda used more sex :)= |
Ted Atkinson
Ashes to Ashes was excellent! It would have been better if Vachon had not died.
Last Knight was EXTREMELY DEPRESSING! Thank god the ending was such that the series coming back, or a movie, is still possible. LaCroix could simply use that stake to smack Nick up the side of the head stating that "he will not kill his son" and then bring Nat across. The series could then continue as before only Nat would be restricted to the night shift. |
Reva
I thought both episodes were great. How many other shows can cause so much
speculation? That's why the show inspires so much fan fiction. There is
something about it that inspires creativity. Ashes to Ashes definitely showcased the relationship between Nick and Lacroix. They were father and son and friend to each other. No matter what one did to the other they were always there for each other. Even though I did not want the series to end I thought Last Knight was a masterpiece. I must admit I gasped at the end when Lacroix raised the stake. When it ended I was left with such an empty feeling. I don't think any other show could ever match it with intelligence and creativity. Last Knight showed what everything Nick has been through has done to him. He could never be happy with Natalie or without her which both of them knew but could not face. |
Marie
I thought the acting was greatly preformed in both episodes. Tracy's hair...
scary, I liked it the old way. Nick, two words for you, buddy: hair cut
(sometimes it looked good, though) I'm really going to miss everyone, I know that much, but I think it will be back, soon, I hope. I loved the part when Nick staked Divia, she was so surprised and the look on her face was great. (she really deserved it for killing Urs and Vachon and attemping to kill Nick). I was caught off guard when Vachon ran into the stake Tracy held and he backed away with it in him. I felt... angry, sad, and, etc. When Tracy started talking to him, I was sobbing. I cried so hard I thought I'd never stop. (I did...15 minutes later, I cry easily and I'm open with my emotions.) My mom was equally sad, but didn't cry, just sat there, staring. Last Knight I think can be saved, I have my ideas. The flashbacks got annoying, although, some I had never seen, which were great (like when Nick and Nat meet for the first time). When LaCroix raised the staff to kill Nick and then the credits came on, I was about ready to call up the writers and demand answers. I have written 3 different endings to Ashes to Ashes, and now I'm working on Last Knight. Keep a look out for them in the FanFic libraries written by me a.k.a. MidKnight. |
M.M.
I was disappointed in both Ashes and LK. After building up the Tracy-Vachon
relationship I thought it was a let down how they ended it. After Tracy
"staked" Vachon and she was crying she didn't seem nearly as upset as she did
back in Black Buddha when she broke down in the station because she decided he
wasn't as "nice" as she thought. I thought their ending was abrupt and cold.
Also two further gripes: Nick tells LC to zap Tracy (who is supposed to be immune) and make her forget Vachon died?! In LK, Nick was such an idiot he killed Natalie, please even the dog in Blind Faith managed to bring someone across successfully! |
CousinCp
I liked Ashes to Ashes except for the deaths of Vachon and Urs, even though the plot had holes in it we could have driven a truck through. Last Knight had such a dream-like quality I felt they were leaving it open to interpretation and that they could have easily stepped in with a new season, saying "O gee! It was all a bad dream we had Last Knight." |
Sarah A. Houghton
::innocent look:: What last two eps of FK? Oh, you mean AtA and LK--The Episodes That Did Not Happen. Five words, Fred: "Nobody Dies. Nobody Ever Dies." |
Carolyn Alutius
It goes without saying that I would be happier if the two episodes didn't have to happen. However, both AtA & LK were tribute to the fact that Forever Knight was an extremely well written and produced television show. The subtleties in AtA were brilliant, showing LaCroix's insestous and guilt-ridden love towards his daughter. I loved the way LK opened with LaCroix's monologue on suicide, and how it slowly stopped being about the dead woman and started being about Nick. (BTW, as someone who has had a sucide in her family, much of what he said hit very close to home.) I truly felt that LK was an amazingly good episode. Others have already expressed much of what I feel, so I'll leave it at this. |
Toni Perez
I find it hard to believe that he would kill Nat. They left us to wonder if Nick is dead or not. So... there is room for revival. |
Sharon A. Himmanen
I'll start with "Ashes to Ashes" which was an excellent episode in many
respects, though I was sorry that Urs was killed, then laid to rest by a
stranger. I abhor "Last Knight" in every respect as far as writing is concerned. The characters' action significantly push the envelope of characterization, and I thought the entire thing was Jim Parriott's very public and very unprofessional temper tantrum. There was absolutely no need for the series to end on such a depressing and hopeless note. |
Barb Lewis
I thought they were extremely well done, and ambiguous enough that they weren't necessarily the end. I liked the fact that they killed of Traacceeee! Hated that character. |
K-A
They BITE, BIG time. |
Margie Hammet
I hope this doesn't get me into trouble with the Vaqueros, but Ashes to Ashes
is my favorite episode, even though I wish they could have done it without
Vachon dying. The _outcome_ of Ashes to Ashes was a reconciliation between Nick
and LaCroix, something that I think was well planned for and gradually built to
throughout the whole series. I don't think it was a final reconciliation, and I
expect Nick and LaCroix to have their problems again (no, Nick is _not_ dead),
but hopefully, whatever happens in the future, what happened in Ashes to Ashes
will be something both Nick and LaCroix can build on. It was a wonderfully
moving episode. Both Nigel and Ger deserve Geminis for it, and LaLonde and Bedard deserve Geminis for writing it. |
Lisa Burstiner
A2A was terrific, if only because of the return of Divia. Had the series
continued, this episode could have been pivotal in that it would have furthered
Nick's relationship with Lacroix and made Nick's internal conflict that much
more difficult. I was really disappointed with Last Knight and wish it had never happened. |
Julie Vorderstrasse
"Ashes to Ashes" set a possible tone for a return of all the characters in that vampires never die ie: Divia. Last Knight was very surereal. It could easily set the pace for a dream or for a possible return. I was disapointed at the way they killed off all the characters or at least attempted to. Except of course, Tracy. I also think that it would have been great if somehow Schanke would have came back. |
Nyx Fixx
To be brutally honest, both episodes were inconsistent and disorganized, and
showed, to my mind, a certain lack of heart on the parts of the production
team. I liked that "Ashes to Ashes" revealed the central mystery and tragedy of LaCroix' life, and shed some light on his obsessive need to stay connected, in whatever way possible, to Nick. I liked the sensitive acting, the moody cinematography, the excellent editing of many of the action sequences. I didn't particularly like being baffled by Divia's mysterious resistance to two thousand years of total annhilation, or her ability to prevent vampires from regenerating, or Nick's ability to dispatch her easily with a wooden stake, considering that Dad had staked her, chopped her head off, and entombed her in thousands of pounds of stone without making much of a dent. Those items didn't make sense to me, and the story hinged on them. Otherwise, a striking episode. "Last Knight" was virtually incomprehensible gibberish to me. All the principal characters were behaving in non-characteristic ways. Dr. Lambert has never seemed prone to over-sentimentality to me, or self-pity, and I couldn't see her equating herself with her suicidal chum. LaCroix would have poured a gallon of gasoline over himself and struck a match before he'd have raised a stake to Nick. And, Nick, even in his early days as an unregenerate blood-sucking fiend, has demonstrated the willingness, and the ability, to draw the kill out. He kept victims chained in the larder/dungeon for days and days in "Fallen Idol". But, after centuries of moral growth and faced with a woman he idolizes, he suddenly cannot touch her without killing her? The whole thing is senseless. Plus, it renders Nick's interminable quest to redefine himself meaningless. If this series had to come to an end, I really would have preferred an end that had some emotional logic. Plus, I would have given these characters, who've come to seem like old friends, a break. Would it have hurt to have a less defeated finale? |
Patrick K. Aiex
Believe it or not, I haven't seen the last two episodes. I'm in the process of trying to get tape copies of the episodes. Although from what I've heard about "Last Knight," I probably won't like that one. |
Sharon Bauman
OK, so I'm answering this one twice. My first reply criticized the shows. But I
also agree with the other respondees that Ashes to Ashes and Last Knight had
some fine acting. I've always liked the LaCroix character, and I think Nigel
Bennett does an excellent job of portraying him. Nigel was especially effective
in Ashes to Ashes. I don't know when I've been more sympathetic to an "evil"
character than to LaCroix in AtA. [But I don't consider LaCroix too evil;
sometimes sadistic, but always a vampire.] The writers finally gave us some
great insight into LaCroix's feelings; I'm just sorry they couldn't have
maintained it in a fourth season.
I don't believe it would be possible for Divia to kill Vachon and Urs, but Vachon's death scene was a good performance by Ben Bass. I almost cried for Tracy and Vachon! And the final scene between LaCroix and Knight, when Divia is being disposed of was well done. LaCroix is "father" to Nick, who's tryng to comfort him while LaCroix burys his daughter/"mother" [as in the one who brought LaCroix across]. Scenes between Lacrox and Nick can be so interesting - and this one had the right ingredients: writing, directing, and acting. Last Knight, while generally unsatisfying, had strength in the fact that the ending was ambiguous. Did Natalie die? Did LaCroix stake Nick? Did Tracy really die? That last scene between LaCroix and Nick was well done. You really got a sense of their long history together, and the bond between them. And LaCroix cursing Nick for asking him to make the ultimate sacrifice [excuse the play on words] - kill his only remaining child! That would have left LaCroix all alone - something Divia couldn't accomplish. What a great twist! If the series is ever revived, there's a good explanation for the three major characters to all still be alive. And with a little stretch of the imagination on the writers' part, they could come up with some reasonable way to bring back Vachon, Urs, and possibly Tracy. |
Troy Farrell
One of the shows I enjoyed most on television ended... everybody died! Extremely depressing... To end the show for good I guess it was an ok ending, but for those of us who wanted to hold out hope for a return, it made it a little more difficult. Even still, I continue to hold hope that it will return... |
Kristin Weddum
AtA was a downer. I liked it in regards to learning more about Lacoix, but I
was disappointed that Urs and Vachon died. LK was beautifully done. (The first time I saw this episode I wasn't aware that it was the SERIES finale ... so I kept wondering how they'd pick up and continue with the story when the summer re-runs were finally over.) After my sorrow, upon learning the truth, I did initially feel a tad cheated that there wasn't a "happy ending" for Nick and Nat. Eventually, I got over that. The ending was ambiguous enough so if there is a movie, etc... they have a good starting point. If we never hear from FK again (perish the thought!) we can make our own. Nat is still, technically, alive. Nick is still, technically, undead. Lacoix is still undead and well. I only have 2 regrets about LK (other than the obvious I-Want-This-Show-Back sentiment). First, Nick never came right out and said "I love you" to Natalie. She deserved to hear it (and so did those of us who have been waiting right along with her). I was also upset that the last "flash" she had (when Nick was draining her dry) was of Nick & Janette swapping spit like there was no tomorrow. I'm sure that is the LAST thing she'd want to see. It certainly shouldn't have been THE last thing she saw! |
Wendy Lee
Last Knight depressed me for weeks. I like to think that there might be some hidden kind of happy ending here, but it's a little hard to see! |
Phoenix
"Ashes to Ashes" was quite imaginative and well done. One thing that I liked
was that we got to see how Lacroix came to be. I had heard nothing about
possible cancellation of the show, but knew that it was coming with that
episode. It was great for plot value. "Last Knight" depressed me. Not just because it was the end of the series, but because the end was not resolved as I had hoped. I would much rather have had Nick bring Natalie across then have things end the way they did. I did wonder about the ending, though. It seems to have left quite a window for continuing the series. After all, you never see Nick die. I may be somewhat ignorant of the series's future as I have just recently come across the Forever Knight sights on the Net and there may be info. out there on it. Oh well, just wanted to respond. |
Daniel Koh
Ashes to Ashes: Probably the best of season 3 and among the best ever. Last Knight: Only Lacroix's monologue was memorable. The episode as a whole was terribly disappointing, tho. |
Tammy Lou Tribby
I did not like everyone dying. Like I said in the Domian BBoard though Vachon is not dead, once you remove the stake the vampire comes back. This has even been shown before. The part about Diava was excellent. The last one was good until they got to the end. I can not believe LaCroix would kill Nick. Maybe Nick did not take too much either and Nat's alive too. They where good shows, however they did not have to kill everyone. |
Irene Blythe
I was upset because I could see the show was ending. I was interested in the relationship between LaCroix and his daughter and the story line. I was sad at the death of Vachon (one of my favorites). However, in the last show, it did leave a door open for a potential return, so I remain "Forever Hopeful". If the studios feel there is a market to sell videos of the show next year, perhaps they will realize there is a market to view the show back on t.v. in new episodes. |
Danielle Laux
They were very very cool. But I hated that LaCroix turn into a softy. He was so nicd and sweet. Like gag me with a spoon. I thing my favorte part is how they left the show wide open for fan fic. |
Aileen Hooks
I thought both were well done from an artistic standpoint, especially LK. But I definitely think LK should have been a two parter. A lot of angst and emotion got crammed into the one hour without sufficient development of the motives underlying the characters' rather extreme behavior. If this was truly the end (and I along with everyone else hope that it isn't -- we don't know that Nat's dead, much less what LaCroix did, though I like to believe that Nat could hear the entire conversation and would have been stirred to scream for Nick to move or LaCroix to stop), The final scenes between Nick and Nat should have been developed further and included a statement of love from Nick, even if it would have been after he thought he had taken too much. |
