I think Lacroix loves being a vampire so much is because he has power he can
watch people suffer. |
TJ Goldstein
Because that's what he is, and Lucien LaCroix was never one to rail against
something he could not change. His energies are better spent elsewhere. |

Actually I don't think he enjoys it so much as he's adapted to it. I think he's
someone with strong survivor skills. By sheer dumb luck more than anything else
he survived Pompeii when nearly everyone else died. In doing that, he found
himself in an entirely new 'lifestyle'. He adapted and even embraced all the
'good' things it offered...like immortality and tried not to regreat what he
had lost in the process. |

First you'd have to answer "why did LC enjoy being a Roman general?"
He was good at it...
I gets his jolllies in cruelty (which leads to--why?--he wasn't breast fed? ;). It's power, dammit, and we all need more! control freak--an "anal" hedonist? Okay, so i didn't answer the question. ha! |

Simple. It is the pure joy found in the kill. He can appreciate the greater
depths and satisfaction found in killing. For the pleasure, the sheer
creativity of doing it. Besides, when you've been around 2000 years, you need
SOMETHING to keep you entertained ;). |
Shirley Davis
I think he enjoys watching humans suffer and laughs at their pitfalls. He has
always seemed to have a cold heart and when you have that you don't care for
much in the world. He can sit back (with his large bank accounts) and watch
humans work their butt off to try and get somewhere in life, and in the end
give it all up because they're 6ft. under. |

I really do love the character of Lacroix so don't get me wrong when I say that
this guy has one hell of an ego. But, on the other hand, I really get the
feeling he has this real need to be loved but still be in serious, serious
control. How much more control can a person desire when he has the control over
eternal life and final death? |
Karen
I think LaCroix loves being a vampire because he loves being in control. He has
always loved power and having power puts him in control. I think that is why he
is so frustrated with Nick's desire to become mortal. With Nick immortal,
LaCroix has some control, a "hold" over Nick. Should Nick ever become mortal,
LaCroix has lost his influence over Nick, and in essence, he failed especially
since Nick is his favorite. LaCroix loves to make people(?) uncomfortable. He
loves to taunt those he comes in contact with. Plays with them like a cat and a
mouse. It's fun to watch the interaction taking place when LaCroix is in a
scene. LaCroix has the history of experience behind him and he plays with
others. It's really a work of art! |

I went through Year Two thinking LaCroix was evil, and really enjoyed being that
way. UNTIL - "Be My Valentine" (which in fact just repeated on our local channel
this past weekend). That episode, and a lot of Year Three, made me look at him
in a different light. As much as he gets off on being immortal (but these days
rarely killing - even he has admited that one cannot/must not draw attention to
oneself) - I think he believes that as an elder vampire, he has a lot he can
teach the younger generation, especially his favourite son (and as a Dark
Knightie, I wish Nicholas would actually listen to his father). Lacroix enjoys
being a vampire because he is very complex, and being a vampire has allowed him
to explore and understand all his complexities. |

It's kind of like asking a lion why he likes being a lion. I think Lacroix just
likes being on top of the food chain. He was always power hungry, being a Roman
general and head of state in Pompeii, and being a vampire gives him power over
death itself (herself, if you read Sandman). |
Tina
I think because of the power it affords him. Prior to Divia bringing him across,
he was a general, which if a position of power. He was obviously a man of
distinction and he was probably raised for greatness. I also think that the
fact that he is such an old vampire has brought him a great deal of wisdom. He
seems to be able to look at all situations without any bias. He doesn't feel
guilty, the way Nick does, and yet, I believe that he does care about people,
especially for the ones he has brought across, specifically Nick and Janette.
I think being a vampire allows him to be in command, have power, and be in
control. Most successful people who are in power will tell you that's what they
enjoy most! |

LC enjoys what he is because he's so good at it. As a former Roman general, LC
had power and control and he undoubtably grew to love it. Being a vampire has
given him the chance to wield power and control for all eternity. How can he
not enjoy that? :) |
Ellen Compton
I think that the reason that LaCroix enjoys being a vampire is because he's so
good at it. Wouldn't you enjoy something your good at? |
Laura Wiborg
Why do you think Lacroix enjoys being a Vampire so much? Well my sister and I
think that because he is Evil. And because he likes to kill and he likes living
forever. Well that is what we have to say By BY. |
Xiomara
Lacroix doesn't enjoy just watching the world around him. He likes to be in
control and making things happen. Being a vampire allows him not only to
witness history but to be part of it and change it if he wills. Also his powers
allow him to affect and control the lives of mere mortals. Can you think of
anything that would be more fun? |
Evelyn Duncan
He likes living life on the edge, with no rules to follow except for his own;
he likes being able to get revenge on those who have hurt him and his kind (and,
especially, his children); and he enjoys having the means (his vampiric powers)
to live his life the way he wants to. He doesn't have to listen to a boss, a
wife, the IRS, etc. |
Angie a.k.a. Lasher
Actually I think that it gives him the same feeling of power and control that
he held and felt when he was a general in the Roman Army. |

Lacroix was once a man...but even in life he was cruel. Immortality only
magnified that cruelty to the point of murder and beyond...He does however
enjoy being a vampire because it gives him ultimate power over the ones he
choices to bring across. However it does not mean he is evil...if he were evil
how could he love Nick as his son??
Even Divia...his daughter was evil...but as she lay dying he said "I love you"
Truely this is not the face of evil.... |
Gregg Beevers
Because he has so much power, he also likes watching humans die of natural
causes while he lives on. |

The outlook, or world view, of each vampire, must, in large part, be formed out
of the culture each was originally born into. Lacroix grew up as a Roman
aristocrat, during Rome's period of empire. He would have been taught that all
non-Roman citizens were less than human, that all lesser classes of Roman
society were less than human, and that slavery was the just fate of the
majority of the human race. That only his life, and the lives of his fellow
patricians, had any intrinsic value. In other words, from infancy to adulthood
as a mortal, he would have been indoctrinated in a world view that coincides
perfectly with the vampire-as-predator perception of vampirism. He has been
able to make a perfect adjustment to vampirisim (an adjustment that still
eludes Nick, the idealistic Norman crusader). What's interesting about Lacroix
is how his original aristocratic arrogance has softened over the course of 2000
years of observation of his prey, mortals. He seems to have come to a
realization that human life does, indeed, have some value, regardless of the
social status of the individual human. But, he still has the basic mindset of
an "insider" and still tends to look at vampire society as equivalent to the
Roman aristocracy he was born to; a closed exclusive club composed of
individuals who are "above" the rest of the world. He likes being a vampire
because he is able to perceive his condition as "right", "fitting", completely
familiar and comfortable to him on the deepest levels of his mind. He's lucky.
Nick, on the other hand, is unlucky. His "father", Lacroix, has indoctrinated
him into Lacroix' vision of vampirism, which happens to be at odds with the
prevailing attitudes of Nick's original culture. Of course, Nick was the oldest
male heir of an aristocratic family, and has his "insider" predjudices too.
Jeanette, with her less exalted social origin, must have somtimes gotten a
little tired of the two of them. |
Marg Rothschild
I'm sure he loves the power that he has - more than what he had as a General,
don't ya think? He has his own community - probably makes him feel 'god-like'
in that he can create more of his own kind. I think he enjoys tormenting Nick,
yet he craves companionship. |
Naomi Engle
I don't think he really enjoys being a vampire. I think he's bored which is why he spends so much time tormenting Nick. He actually seems to be a rather lonely vampire. His radio program appealed to the lonely. He seemed to spend time on the internet visiting with Rosebud trying to find someone he had something in common with. He desperately wanted Nick to share his life and it has been a continual frustration for him that Nick has other interests. Also he's been around a long time and not much has changed except technology. |
