Forever Knight character: Donald Schanke
Schanke Nick Knight's first partner, Don Schanke, was an all-around regular guy and family man, fond of souvlaki and bowling, and beloved by fans for his warmth and endearingly obnoxious manner. The exact opposite of his partner in almost every way, Don Schanke's outgoing personality was a vital source of comic relief during the first two seasons of Forever Knight. Sadly, Don Schanke died in an airplane-bombing at the start of the third season. Fans continue to mourn his loss.

Born in London, Ontario, John began his acting career in at the age of 22 when he joined Chicago's famous Second City comedy troupe. John spend eight seasons with Second City, and during that period launched a successful career in movies, television, and live theater.

John has appeared in numerous feature-films including Thief, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Roxanne, Defenseless, and Internal Affairs. In his latest film appearance, John portrayed blackmailer Walter Lippinscot in John Raffo's Johnny Skidmarks.

John has also appeared in many made-for-television movies, and was the only member of the original cast of the television movie-pilot Nick Knight to retain his role and continue in the television series Forever Knight.

In addition to his regular role on Forever Knight, John has made guest appearances on many popular television programs including Seinfeld, Home Improvement, Dave's World, and Quantum Leap. John co-starred as Robert Morton in HBO's critically-acclaimed The Late Shift, and recently appeared in David Kelley's new series, The Practice.

John's theatre credits include a co-starring role in the drama Viscious, shown at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre. John also co-starred in a series of radio plays produced by LA Theatreworks, including an appearance this past February (1997) as Lebedev, in Dostoyevsky's The Idiot. Other works in that series of plays were The Waldorf Conference, Harry Shearer's musical, J. Edgar, and Death and the Maiden, where John co-starred with John Mahoney.

John is also a writer and has received three Clio awards and a Chicago Emmy. John's original musical Syd: The Karaoke Kid, will premier this fall in Chicago.

John is fluent in three language: English, French and Greek, and also plays the guitar and piano.
