Nick confronts his dark side while investigating a double homicide whose prime
suspect is a seductive stripper. Complications arise when Nick is seduced by
the suspect into committing a crime.

The story begins when a man enters what looks to be a deserted warehouse, where
he is joined by his mistress. The man confesses to embezzling money, which
clearly excites the woman. Suddenly, the man is strangled from behind. This
assailant is also the woman's lover, and as they embrace the woman plunges a
knife into the man's back.
Back at the 96th precinct, Nick and Schanke learn that one of the victims was
an accountant and the other was a cop who was friends with Captain Stonetree.
When Natalie discovers traces of the same perfume that she herself wears, along
with a theatrical lipstick, on the two victims' bodies, Nick and Schanke are
led to Jilly's, a strip joint. It is at Jilly's that Nick becomes captivated by
Ann Foley, one of the strippers.
Nick follows Ann home and admits his suspicions to her. Ann seduces Nick and
convinces him to steal a piece of evidence, the murdered cop's casebook, to
prove that Nick is willing to live on the edge.
Nick's involvement with Ann drives a wedge not only between himself and
Schanke, but also between himself and Nat. In order to trap Ann and solve the
case, Nick uses Schanke as bait.

While Stonetree wonders what drives a man to do evil, Nick flashes back to the
night he was seduced by Janette. First, we see Nick in a castle seated at a
table and surrounded by his fellow knights, feasting and drinking after their
battle. Then, we see how Janette lured Nick, sexually and psychologically, into
the world of darkness that she and Lacroix shared. This is the last time we see
Nick as a mortal. This is also when Nick was introduced to Lacroix. The
flashbacks are appropriately interspersed with scenes of Ann coming on to Nick
and taunting him by playing to his dark side, the same way Janette did in the
past.

I really enjoyed this episode. It brings to mind the question: Did Nick know
what he was doing when he decided to join Janette and Lacroix? We see both
sides of Nick playing against each other; good and evil. We also see Nick admit
that at some point, everyone is tempted to do evil, but we have to take some
responsibility for our actions.
There are elements of drama, eroticism, and even humor throughout. It is a
fascinating exploration of the dual sides of human nature and the struggle to
control the dark impulses. This is most evident when Ann and Nick share a
passionate moment and Nick visibly struggles to keep the vampire in check.
While it seems at first that Nick is really tempted by Ann, by the end his
morality wins out.

This episode had something for everyone. Dark Knighties will love to see Nick
throw caution to the wind and become embroiled in Ann's evil plans. He is at
his darkest and sexiest when he flies to her apartment and allows Ann to work
her charms.
Nick&Natpackers will enjoy the tension that Nick's involvement with Ann
adds to his friendship with Natalie, and the way he resolves the conflict.
Cousins will get a kick out of seeing the chilling scene between Nick, Janette,
and Lacroix, when Lacroix approaches Nick for the first time.
Immortal Beloveds will of course love the seduction of Nick by Janette and the
passionate moments they share.
Stonetree to Nick: | Stonetree: "What makes a good man evil?" Nick: "The eternal question." |
Nick: | "You can't blame women for all the evils of the world." |
Schanke to Nick: | Schanke: "I'm not worth a wad of buffalo chips if I don't get eight hours." Nick: "That explains so much." |
Lacroix: | "Hello, Nicholas. We're going to be friends for a long, long time." |
- When Nick and Schanke are walking into Jilly's for the first time, Nick is
approached by a street person who asks if Nick would like him to watch the caddy.
- There are also longer flashback scenes between Janette and Nick.
- At the end, there is a shot of Natalie's desk, where a bottle of perfume
and a red rose have been placed by her computer.
- Shot of Nick following Ann to her dressing room is cut short.
- The very funny scene when Schanke reveals to Nick his plaid skirt and knee
socks fetish.
- After Nick asks Stonetree for the casebook, Stonetree explains his
accordion trophy to Schanke.
