Forever Knight character: Janette Ducharme (french pronunciation)
Janette Ducharme Before Lacroix brought her across approximately one thousand years ago, Janette was a prostitute in Paris, France. For ninety-six years, she and Nick have been lovers. More recently, Janette has been living in Toronto with her family, where she was operating The Raven, a nightclub where vampires gather together and have a drink. However, after being "infected" by the doubts that Nick has been strugling with for years concerning his vampire condition, she handed the place to Lacroix and left for Montreal. The last time she was seen, she was back in Toronto and was mortal again. However, when her life became threatened, Nick couldn't let her die and had to bring her back across.

Deborah's life   (Last updated: January 2, 1997)
Deborah Duchêne was born in Montreal (Quebec, Canada) on July 3, 1962. She is the second of five children. Her eldest brother, who is three years older, is a chaplain and a photographer. Her sister, a single mom and student, is three years younger. Her two other brothers are five and twelve years younger, working as an electronics engineer and serving the U.S. Army respectively. Her mother is a housewife and her father is a retired Baptist minister.

While she was young, Deborah and her family moved a lot, going from city to city (mostly rural parts of the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada), due to the fact that every three or four years, her father was re-posted to another parish. When she was not in school, she was usually in church. Deborah spent a great deal of time studying music, especially piano. She also studied violin, flute, trumpet and voice, but to a lesser extent.

After a stint as a student missionary in her father's church mission in France, Deborah obtained a bachelor in arts with distinction from McGill University. Her first professionally-oriented studies were done in economics and political science. However, she was seduced into the world of drama when she played her first-ever role in Stephen Sondheim's university production "A Funny Thing Happened To Me On the Way to the Forum".

It was as Denise in Yves Simoneau's critically acclaimed "Perfectly Normal" that Deborah's feature film debut was made. She also starred in "Press One to Connect" while she was attending Norman Jewison's Center for Advanced Film Studies. Other film projects include appearances in Carlo Liconti's "Vita Cane" and Richard J. Lewis' "Whale Music".

On television, Deborah has co-starred with Jimmy Smits in Ken Olin's Movie of the Week "The Broken Cord". She also made numerous guest appearances in such shows as "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues", "Counterstrike", "Street Legal", "E.N.G", "Matrix", "Top Cop", "Beyond Reality", "Secret Service" and "My Secret Identity".

Deborah's first love, however, is theater. She has appeared in Toronto as Monique in the Crow's Theater presentation of "Triptych", as Lucille in the Equity Showcase production of "Danton's Death", as Betty in the Buddies in Bad Times production of "The Sound of Music", as Lucy Sweard in the Playbill Productions presentation of "Dracula" and as Agnes in the Village Playhouse production of "Agnes of God".

Deborah describes herself as a perpetual student. She loves learning about any subject. Besides being a major music buff, she writes a bit (short stories, poetry, etc.), is a public radio enthusiast and loves trekking in the wilderness of the Canadian north.

Deborah recently announced that she was taking an extended leave from acting, desiring to channel her energies into something more grounded than acting. She is seriously considering going back to school with either Arts Therapy or Psychology as her major. She's not sure whether or not she will ever come back to TV acting. She is currently working part time in a non-acting field while she is taking piano classes to prepare for a certificate from the University of Toronto. This is to enable her to teach piano, music appreciation and voice in the future. She also spends 4 hours/day practicing her piano, so she's very busy.
